Robin Hemley’s “The Holocaust Party”
I think the main theme of this poem is the holocaust that took place in Europe during world war II.
The story is told by a survivor of the holocaust therefore she is narrating base on her outlook.
The event took place in the period of time from 1941 to 1945 during which many people (specially Jews) were killed by the Nazi. Not sure when the story was written but from the lines we can see that the narrator has overcome the emotions and she can tell as if it were a normal story.

I agree that the main point of this story was definitely the Holocaust. I also thought that a related theme was the idea of the different effects the Holocaust had on people. I didn't think the woman in the story actually was a survivor though, which was why the father got so upset at her for making light of such a terrible situation. His emotions, I thought, showed a whole different effect the Holocaust and war had on him.
I really like how you noted that the narrator was able to overcome the deep emotions and tell the story.
